Renalfa Power Clusters acquires two large scale renewable assets in Romania

Renalfa Power Clusters has successfully completed the acquisition of two renewable projects in Romania. The first asset, Horia 2 is a PV power plant with installed capacity of 365MWp. The second one is standalone BESS in Arad with 400MW/800MWh, both located in West Romania, Arad County. The new owner intends to combine and redesign the projects into a single power cluster and expand the installed capacity of both PV and BESS in close future. Both acquired projects are fully derisked, in ate-stage development with expected commercial launch in 2027.
Renalfa Power Clusters will expand the Horia – Arad power cluster in two stages. In the first expansion the solar capacity will be increased to 568 MWp and the BESS capacity will increase to 669 MW / 2,000 MWh. The second phase will add another advanced 400 MW / 1,608MWh standalone BESS, potentially in combination with more PV.
"When fully built, Horia-Arad cluster will pioneer three deep-tech innovations: a hybrid dual-chemistry storage plan of Lithium-Ion and Sodium-Ion batteries, a grid-forming inverter technology, and a proprietary AI-driven dispatch and control platform. Together, they shall convert the wider cluster into a so-called"Sovereign Grid Anchor" capable of providing the grid services previously exclusive to thermal power plants", said Ivo Prokopiev, CEO of Renalfa.
This is the first acquisition of Renalfa Power Clusters, a newly formed joint venture between Vienna-based clean energy and e-mobility investment group Renalfa Solapro Group and Paris-based investment management company RGREEN INVEST, through its INFRAGREEN equity funds.
The new venture, that targets Poland and Romania as its core markets, builds on the scale and success of the partners’ first joint venture, Renalfa IPP. In less than five years, Renalfa IPP has grown into one of Europe’s leading investors and operators of utility scale hybrid assets equipped with long-duration BESS. This rapid development has enabled Renalfa IPP to implement an innovative business model and become the first company in Europe to bring green baseload products to market.
